Dr. Matthew Free
Dr. Free received his doctorate in psychology from The Ohio State University (OSU) in 2019. Throughout graduate school, the focus of his research and clinical training was on anxiety-related conditions. He completed a one-year rotation in OSU’s Psychological Services Center with Dr. DeCola, where he received extensive training in evidence-based treatments for anxiety. He then completed a one-year rotation at OSU’s Anxiety and Stress Disorders Clinic. He received further specialized training in the treatment of OCD, PTSD, and other anxiety disorders at OSU Wexner Medical Center. He helped develop a group treatment for OCD over the two years he was there. His graduate research focused on understanding what factors contribute to the persistence of excessive, uncontrollable worry.
At ABHS, Dr. Free provides cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy for anxiety, stress (e.g, PTSD) and OCD-related conditions under the supervision of Dr. McCreary (as Dr. Free accrues hours toward independent licensure). Dr. Free primarily uses exposure-based treatments to help clients build the confidence to confront their fears and reclaim their lives. His ultimate goal is to help clients get their lives back on track as quickly as possible while teaching them concrete skills so that they can be their own therapists.
