Dr. Matthew Free

Dr. Free received his doctorate in Psychology from The Ohio State University (OSU) in 2019.  Throughout graduate school, the focus of his research and clinical training was on anxiety-related conditions.  He completed a one-year rotation in OSU’s Psychological Services Center with Dr. DeCola, where he received extensive training in evidence-based treatments for anxiety.  He then completed a one-year rotation at OSU’s Anxiety and Stress Disorders Clinic.  He received further specialized training in the treatment of OCD, PTSD, and other anxiety disorders at OSU Wexner Medical Center.  He helped develop a group treatment for OCD over the two years he was there.  His graduate research focused on understanding what factors contribute to the persistence of excessive, uncontrollable worry.

Having an anxiety disorder can often feel overwhelming, making it difficult to know where to start.  Dr. Free helps clients determine what might be possible to change, and what might make more sense to accept.  Dr. Free provides evidenced-based treatments for anxiety and OCD-related conditions, primarily using exposure-based techniques to help clients build the confidence they need to confront their fears and reclaim their lives.  His ultimate goal is to help clients get their lives back on track as quickly as possible while teaching them concrete skills so that they can be their own therapists.

Dr. Free is a licensed psychologist and is a member of the International OCD Foundation and Ohio Psychological Association.  He also co-facilitates a free OCD support group in the community.
